Hello world!

Welcome to the blog of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., the Southeast Region at Georgia Tech.  Here you will find information on our current members, upcoming events, and achievements.  But first, let’s talk a little about Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., affectionately known as SGRho.

On November 12th, 1922 on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, seven school teachers came together with the same mission: to found a sorority that focused on improving the community through education of the youth.  That night Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was born, draped in royal blue and antique gold, forged bravely just under the nose of the Ku Klux Klan.  These seven school teachers – Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Bessie May Downey Rhodes Martin, Cubena McClure, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, and Dorothy Hanley Whiteside – fought hard and incorporated Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority on December 29th, 1929, granting them an Alpha Chapter at Butler University the following year.

In the 89 years since the founding of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., ninety-thousand new poodles have been born into the world, each promising to uphold the motto of  “Greater Service, Greater Progress” whilst never acting in such a manner as to demean the sorority.  The sorority has partnered with various organizations in order to better serve the community, with the Internal Revenue Service, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the March of Dimes just to name a few.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., the Southeast Region at Georgia Tech came to campus on April 19th, 2003 with the induction of Melanie Nelson and LaTonya Jackson.  Next came Enid Brown in 2005, followed by Jamila Penn in 2006.  The Fall of 2007 brought Taneshia Marshall and Maureen Ochola into the sisterhood, followed by Kia Benion in the Spring of 2009.  The Spring of 2011 witnessed the induction of Renea Neal, Tierra Smith, and Stefania Lee.
